Endoscopy

What is the difference between being asleep and and awake while having endoscopy? I have been having endoscopy cautery for the bleeders in my stomach. The first two I was asleep, the last one was done while I was awake. I don't know why I didn't ask the doc then, (duh!).

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Was it done in the same facility by the same anesthesia provider? In my facility our anesthesia provider gives enough Propofol that our patients are asleep, but not under general anesthesia. Some other hospitals in my area give different medications so that the patient is completly awake during the procedure. So my only guess is it depended on what the anesthesia provider wanted to give and perhaps what the surgeon was going to get into: maybe he thought it would be a more complicated case so he wanted you more asleep. HTH.

Thanks, yes. It was done in the same facility and the same doctor. He said I was improving, so what you said does make sense. Thanks again.
