employment opps after online refresher course?

A local university offers a comprehensive online refresher course for RN'S that costs $800 and can be completed in up to one year and requires 120 hours of clinical to be scheduled at your own pace. My question is what are the chances of being hired after this course if you are only seeking part time or contingent work.

I know hospitals are interested in getting full time nurses but are they interested in hiring a nurse who has been out of nursing for 10 years that just took a refresher course and is only willing to work one maybe two shifts a week?

Any personal experiences? I don't want to invest time and money if the chances of contingent employment is nil. (I work full time elsewhere)

Even if you take that refresher course, you are going to need to do a full-time orientation, especially if you have been out of nursing that long. So much has changed. They are still going to want you to go thru their orientation.

The bigger issue is how much time did you have in nursing before you left the field? That will be the most important deciding factor. If you graduated as a nurse, but never worked in the field, you are definitely not going to find anything without being able to go thru their full-time orientation and even taking a full-time position, more than likely.

If you had ten years of experience, then went onto something else, you have a better chance. You need to be more specific.

I don' have any input on your employment prospects, but I do strongly encourage you to get a commitment in writing from a hospital or healthcare institution for your clinical time prior to beginning the on-line program. There have been several posters here who completed the "book work", but then could not find a location for their clinical time.

Thank you for your response. Good point, I will check into where the clinicals are. I have 20 years experience before leaving but I know a lot has changed. Thanks!
