I am going for my RN right now, and am looking for something that could make me more marketable. Would this certification help?
Electronic Health Records Specialist Certificate
It seems to be more office orientated, but as far as advancing in my career once I graduate would this be a good thing to have? One adviser told me it would help, but I am skeptical.

Personally, I've never heard of that certification, but I'm doing something somewhat similar. I'm a medical scribe in the ER, and my job is to maintain all the physician's charting on each patient. Very documentation-based, although it obviously required enough pharmacology and medical knowledge to make some common sense judgment calls on the charting. I do know a few RN's who started on the documentation side of things and they say it did help them in getting a job.
Here is the description from my college's website:
Program description. Administrative Professional Technology offers a core curriculum that provides an academic/technical foundation for individuals preparing for positions in business and health careers using computer applications and administrative skills. During the last semester of the two-year curriculum, administrative skills will be assessed using Office Proficiency Assessment and Certification (OPAC), developed by the International Association of Administrative Professionals. OPAC uses industry-accepted testing and validation techniques. It measures proficiency and knowledge in computer software, clerical, financial and professional areas. Students may choose to certify based on the results of the assessment.
I know it is not "open your mouth and say ah' type of stuff, but from what I understand the 2 years to get a BSN is mostly paperwork and that kind of thing. Even if something like this does not transfer, do you think it could make me more marketable?
