El Paso Safety

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! I'm a new grad and I'm currently applying anywhere and everywhere for my first job, with no luck so far. I've noticed that El Paso seems to have a lot of hospitals willing to hire new grads, but I worry about the safety of the city.

I know it is consistently rated as one of the safest cities in America, but is this really the reality when you live there? Does any of the violence/crime from Juarez (most dangerous city in the world?) across the border spill into El Paso? Also, if I did move there, what part of the city would be safest to live in? Thanks so much for any input you can provide!!

Anyone??

UCAFblue i have been living in El Paso all my life and I can say that it is one of the safest cities around. None of the violence from Juarez has crossed over, and I can say that the crime rate and violence in juarez has decreased, i still do not consider it safe to go and visit but you truly have nothing to worry about.

If you do move out here I would recommend living on the West side which is considered the nicer/richer part of El Paso and also the closest to several hospitals or the East side which is newer and has been growing significantly over the last 5 years or so.

What cities have you been applying for jobs so far? I will be graduating in Dec and was planning on moving but I wouldn't want to leave and be unsuccessful at finding a job.

Thank you so much for your great response ediitundoo!!!! You've put me at ease with applying there.

As for what cities I've applied to so far, it's really all across the country. I've found that places like Spokane, Boise, the D.C area, Virginia, Texas, Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and the Dakotas seem to have the most opportunity for new grads. But, there's the possibility it will all change by December when you graduate. And not to say there aren't opportunities elsewhere, those just seem to have the most jobs that are new grad friendly. I live in Denver right now, and can tell you that things are awul here for new grads...there's next to nothing. I don't really want to move, but feel like it is my only option. I wouldn't suggest moving anywhere until you are sure you have a job there. One good place I've been looking at jobs is Indeed's website. There are a lot of travel nurse job postings on there, so you have to kind of weed through those to find the normal postings, but it gives you a great overall look at a good portion of jobs available across the country.

Good luck with the rest of school, it will be such a relief to have it done!

I'm from Colorado as well and the front range opportunities are truly dismal. I knew early that I would have to leave and I have been offered a job with a great new grad program in Texas. Good luck!

If you don't mind me asking, what city in Texas did you get the job offer in LucyWill?
