EL MSN in CA?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi everyone!

I am a 27 y/o female. I have my BA from a private univeristy in LA. I decided that I would like to go into Nursing and am aware of 2 programs in CA that offer an EL MSN (Entry Level Masters of Science in Nursing). They are at Fresno State and Cal State Fullerton. Does anyone know of more? Is anyone in the program? What can you tell me about it? I am working on my pre-req's right now and have 2 maybe 3 classes left. I am aiming for Fall 2008, but we will see. I thought I had 2 classes left, but just read something about biochem, which I haven't taken and now may need. Let me know! Thanks!

How impacted are these entry level programs? Anybody know? I am planning to apply to an accelerated program in California, not sure whether to apply to the accelerated BSN or MSN. Anybody have suggestions? I'm currently finishing up my bachelors in psychology. My overall gpa should be around 3.2-3.3 when I'm done, but my science gpa is very low (2.7) I'm not sure if going through the entry level route is a good idea or not. Does experience matter for these el-msn programs?

Experience is a factor in the admission process, but a very small one. Most Apps go by a point system, and a majority of the admissions points are weighed toward your BS GPA, TEASE score, and Pre-req GPA. For example, here is Fullerton's ELMSN applicant point system:

Bachelor's degree GPA 20 points

Pre-requisite coursework GPA 30 points

Work or volunteer experience 10 points

Residency 10 points

Letters of Recommendation 10 points

TEAS 20 points

Total 100 points

So if you lack in a larger component, then you can pick up the slack if you can score high in ALL of the smaller sections.

I'm a little in the same boat as you, so good luck to us both! ;)

EL-MSN programs are very competitive in california. especially the public ones! its cause everyone wants to stay in cali or go to cali
