Educational question

I applied for a job that has me as a desk nurse. . This is not were I plan to stay but I don't want to look for a different position quite yet (I have plans to move in 6 or 7 months). However, my question is this.... I am scared about losing nursing skills and proficiency. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can continue to learn and keep on on everyday nursing? My goal is to be a floor nurse.

I have no idea what a "desk nurse" is. Could you clarify?

As to keeping up, subscribe to at least two nursing journals and read them cover-to-cover every month.

Join your local nursing association and attend their educational offerings. This will help you with networking (even if you do move) and give you opportunities to ask people about their jobs, why they like them, and why they don't do what they don't do.

If you have some inkling about what you might like best, join that local nursing specialty group or nursing association special interest group.

No learning is ever wasted. But you have to put in some effort.

What I do at my job is sit behind a desk ensure our monthly calender is up to date and run a meeting once a week. I am involved in projects to separate patients on to specific teams and I run a smoking cessation program. I do not see, interact or assess many patients at all. I do want to go back to the floor for I am an on the go type person not o e to sit at a desk. I am interested in pediatrics for I have done my preceptor ship there and loved it. With the offers you had mentioned don't they cost money?

Offers?

Oh, you mean the educational offerings from the state nursing association and other nursing associations. Yes, they do. Not much, but yes, there is a cost. The magazine subscriptions cost money too.

I didn't understand that you wanted only a free ride to your destination.

I don't want a free ride but to join my state nursing association is 215$ I don't want to pay that if I'm moving withing the year. . I'm ok with paying for things but that's a lot of money to only participate for 6months
