Educational Opportunities While Traveling

I think alot depends on the facility. At my job, travelers may register for and take classes available to the staff, however they are not paid for the time spent in class. These classes include chemo certification, EKG interp, critical care course, pain mngt etc. There are also continuing medical education courses which may be free or at a reduced price for nurses. If that fails, manly local colleges offer continuing education for nurses, and there are a host of online classes.

I am an Agency Nurse who takes contracts locally and some further away depending on my childrens school year etc. All of my classes are paid by me unless I am contracted otherwise. I am taking a new contract locally that requires JIHRA (I can not remember, at the moment what the acronyms stand for and if they are exactly correct but it is for dealing with Agressive Patients for Psych Nursing Management) Training. I am being reimbursed for the training and my time as part of my contract agreement that I negotiated; nice... for me.

There are often many oppurtunities to take classes locally at a facility and I always try to take advantage of them even if my time is not paid and expecially if the classes are CEU's for free.

I always make sure my credentials are kept up to date so I remain marketable.
