Education in the US

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, I will be graduating as a Div 2 enrolled nurse next apr and I seriously want to practice in the US. Will it be easier for me to complete my degree here in Australia or enroll in the US for my degree? If so, any recommendations? I really need advice cuz I've been gg round in circles thinking up all sorts of options but alas! I'm no better than where I started! Also, do hospitals in the US employ enrolled nurses?

If you definitely wish to work in the US, then you are much further ahead by attending school up here. You will have to make up classes in two areas with the system in Australia and the UK now to meet licensing requirements for the US.

In the US, nurses must first be generalists, in the above mentioned countries, the training essentially involves 18 months og general nursing, then 18 months in either Adult, Peds/Maternal Health, or Mental Health. So you are considered a specialist, and not a generalist.

Canada also has the same requirements as the US, though, many of the provinces are now requiring a BSN for entry level.

Hope that this helps...............

Thanks! I'll go check out the details. BTW are there any nursing schools that yuo recommend or are they equally good?

For the most part they are all good. Depends on where you would get accepted to, the expense as you would be considered an "out of state" student, as well as weather conditions that you prefer........

Good luck.....................

Hi Suzanne, thanks for the lil tip. I'll bear that in mind while applying for schools thanks.
