Greetings DVAPwr, I haven't taken the EC English Comp, nor do I intend to. I hesistate to risk my time/money on a one shot composition. Others have taken an online class from a long distance English Class at the University of Texas at Austin or one from Louisiana. EC does recognize either of these 2 classes. I would ask your advisor to verify acceptance of these credits before I would sign on. These classes require several compostions, but you would have feedback from the teachers during the class. This is the structure I would need. I am doing well with EC solo studying, but English Comp is one I think I would need more direction, and an expert critique as I progress.
I wish you well. Sincerely

Hi I took the exam on Oct 11 and recieved my grade after thanksgiving, I thought for sure I failed but thankfully I passed with a "C". I thought it was hard only because you have to hand write it in a booklet and you have one hour for each essay and you have 3 essays to write and 3 hours to do them. The good side of it is that i got 6 credits, if you think that you are good at writing essays and can explain your thoughts on paper then you can give this exam, but do not take the risk if you think you can not do it, because it cost $280.
Sarahr5,
This exam you took was the EC Test? Was your English test a Prometric or Clep exam? I'm surprised it was a handwritten test! I thought typing was required. Were you given a choice of formats inwhich to take the test? Were you given a pencil with an eraser? Were you required to use a pen?
Were you instructed as to what subject to write about? Was there a multiple choice section of the test? I would like to know what to expect.
I'm told I write well. That opinion belongs to my prejudiced FRIENDS tho! I only need an english class for 3 credits. I don't know which class I should take. I need some words of wisdom too. It's hard to prepare for something I am so ignorant about. (I know that's ending a sentence with a prepostion.)
$280 is a great price for 6 credits. I have a better chance of passing, than I would playing the lotto!

When I was in traditional nursing school, I had to take the clep for eng 101 three times. CLEP informed me that my FIRST score was good enough for most schools, but my school had a higher standard, which I nailed on the nose the 3rd time. It was still worth it to me. Unforuntately Excelsior doesn't accept the ENG101 clep test for it's written requirement, fortunately I found out after receiving my transcripts that they DID give me credit, it just doesn't fulfill the written requirement but it still eliminates 3 credits for me.
I got permission to take ENG102 through the local college, which offers an internet version, which I'll start next week. While part of me sometimes thinks I should just go for the exam on the off chance that I can get into the CPNE sooner and don't want to be held back waiting for these credits, I don't think I would want to go through that type of testing again -- and I've written well enough to be published (just a couple articles). Not at Excelsior/prometric rates anyway.

The English Comp test is hand written. They give you a 3 booklets to write in for each of the 3 Essay questions. You were required to use a pen which was difficult. If you are a fairly good writer, I'd take the chance. I passed with a C, but was glad to get the 6 credits. They give you the subjects to write about. I felt that as long as you can make some concrete ideas you'd pass this test.
