Hey guys is anyone applying or has anyone heard back from this program yet?!
Most, if not all, hospitals in NY phased out the LPNs. However there are clinics that are associated with Stony Brook, Northwell, and other hospitals that do hire LPNs. There are also plenty of nursing homes and agencies that hire LPNs. I met quite a few LPNs during my pediatrics rotation who pretty much spend the day at school with their patient. There are jobs, but obviously continuing with your education would be the safer bet.
Also, you probably heard this, but recently Suffolk and Stony Brook have this joint program where if you get into Suffolk and get your Associates, you can transfer easily to Stony Brook to get your BSN. I haven't had the chance to look into yet.
LPNs defiantly arent phased out. Like the comment above I know quite a few LPNs with northwell and stonybrook hospitals. But yes most of them end up continuing to the RN or BSN program (which I plan on doing as well once I am done!) But many doctor's offices hire LPNs. My mom has been an LPN for over 30 years she worked at the NY blood bank for 15 years and now shes been with a doctors office ever since. Its nice because you can pick where you would want to work like family practice, pediatrics etc.
On another note I just received my acceptance letter to western suffolk boces this morning!!! One week after my interview! I am SO excited!!!
Thank you for the insight. Yes, I did hear about that new joint program it sounds great! I heard it's very competitive but still totally worth looking into. See my problem is now I have so many credits, but no degree. I had went to suffolk for pre nursing so I have many of the necessary prerequisites for any of the BSN programs, but many of them don't allow repeated courses or anything and some want things that others don't. It's crazy and makes it that much more difficult. I don't really know what direction to go!
My advice is if you already have the pre reqs I would just go for an RN or bsn program. I would just apply to every program and see what happens and then you can make a decision that way!! I think doing boces lpn would be a waste of money for you.
It's a good place for me because I have no science pre reqs (I have a degree in hospitality) and I didn't get into suffolks RN program this year And to make a long story short I can't get into any other school because I have so many credits with a pretty crappy GPA so my cumulative won't be high enough for molloy or Adelphi unless I take like 75 more credits which is a waste of time. Molloy mentioned if I get my lpn I can do their lpn to bsn bridge program and they won't look at my credits from my last degree just the fact that I have an lpn license so it's my only way to get in. I'm happy about it though I've always wanted to be a nurse and now I found my way ! Good luck to you!
yeah you would need to have a 3.0 or a program average over 83% and a current LPN license to get into the program. So if you get your LPN from a school like suffolk community college they would go by your GPA and if you go to a program like boces they go by your program average. You obviously need to take pre reqs like anatomy and chemistry and all those fun things, but if you dont have them you can take them while in the program, or at a community college first and transfer them in. They have everything listed on their website. I went down to the school and spoke to someone a few months back and this is what she recommended i do. They are really nice and helpful at Molloy!
Okay so just so everyone knows that I'm not just bashing this place for flunking out, I actually graduated last August 2017 FTD, and graduated in the top 10 rankings. This is a 100% honest review, and I felt the need to say this because of my experience on the Brentwood Campus. The office staff, always seems so annoyed and overwhelmed. Almost everyone, with the exception of 1 lady, has an attitude and will scold you for being out of class to ask simple question. Another annoying thing was the fact that everyday I would come into school and I would have a different teacher then scheduled. You never knew were you were supposed to be and neither did the teachers. I taught myself everything as far as academics go. In the clinical setting good luck being allowed to do anything. I graduated and have never given an IM injection! I did one Med Pass the whole year! I honestly feel so unprepared for the real world, I am doing my own "Clinical" by volunteering and getting mentors from hospitals to help me with my skills. I was so excited going into this program since working in a hospital and going into nursing is a passion of mine, I expected teachers and administration to be so kind and willing to help since they too have been in our shoes and are nurses. But this faculty is one of the worst I've every experienced. I got letters of recommendation (which you have to pay for $10 each like what??) and they are generic computer generated letters. Ugh... very disappointed. The school did what it had to do, its an accredited nursing program (no idea how) and it lets you sit for your boards so you can move up and continue your education. Don't expect anything else like I did or you will be crushed by this faculty. From one graduate to another, Best of Luck!If you have any questions for exams or anything message me!

Hey guys I had heard from someone in the RN program at SCCC that LPN's are being phased out and they're not hiring them much... Is this true? I tried to find LPN jobs through Northwell but there weren't many. They also don't get hired in hospitals. I was doing this program as a stepping stone hopefully to get a job in the hospital and then having them help me go back for my BSN. I was just curious what anyone thought or what your plans are?
