East Coast Going from 12 to Eight hour shifts?

Someone at my work mentioned that the hospitals in the east are trashing the twelve hour shift in favor of 8 hour shifts. Is this really the case, east coasters?

yikes!! i hope not. pacu, or, and case management are the only units/departments in my facility that have their nurses working 8 hour shifts. being a new nurse, i can't imagine getting all that work done in 8 hours.
