Hi guys,
I'm considering maybe taking a travel position this winter to get out of the cold and I was wondering... do travel agencies usually pay you to get to your assignment i.e. driving across the country? If so, do they pay by the mile?

Travel money is paid but it is the same as I got back in 1989, $300 each way paid after the fact. You had to start working before the to pay was given and you have to leave before the from money is paid. It all comes out of the same pot. Hospital pays company for nurse, company pays nurse after they take their part. Government takes their share too. Hopefully there is enough left to feed and buy clothing for you and the family.

They do pay for travel, usually 40-50 cents per mile from permanent home. Some companies just call it $600 or up to $1000 depending on the company. But you don't receive it until first pay. Sometimes, it's half at first pay check and the other half on last paycheck. It all depends on the company and sometimes the negotiating skills of the traveler.
