Is there such a thing as a dual undergraduate degree? I was wondering if it was possible to get a Bachelors degree in both Nursing and IT at the same time. Yes it may sound silly but I have had it with patient care. I know I am going back to school to get my BSN. I just would like to get some education in IT so I could move into the informatics specialty at the same time. If anyone has anything they would like to add I would appreciate it.
Just to note to save some time. I am going to join a local ANIA group to network while in school and contact several area hospitals to contact there IT departments and talk with personnel there. Try and gain some practical experience while in school.
I have read most of the post on this forum and this seems to be the best way to move into the informatics specialty. If anyone has any suggestions on what else I might do to help speed me along I would enjoy hearing from you.
Thanks everyone in advance for your time on this matter.

Welcome back Cqc_Cqb,
I do remember posting a link related to a dual degree program........I believe the school/program was located in Phili? .....but I'm not sure of the name or other specifics Over the years that I've been moderator of this forum I've posted many, many (too many to remember them all) posts related to education, degree, cert programs, etc. I'd suggest doing a web search and also check out the educational section of AMIA's (The American Medical Informatics Association's) webpage. Its extremely detailed.
Oh, got your e-mail, thanks for the compliment and I'll try to keep up the good work.
Again, Thanks and Good Luck!

Ok, this site has been very informative for me!! I need some advice
I am a 24 yr old male who has a Bachelor of Business Admin in Management and IT and I am working on my MBA which I will finish in 2 semesters. I currently have about 3 years of IT experience
But I am strongly thinking about nursing. It is one of few professions where I can be guaranteed a job and know I will be challenged each day.
I have been reading about Nursing Infomatics and wonder what the market is for this specialty?
Should I persue an ASN or ADN in Nursing or BSN in Nusing or is it possible for me to go directly to a masters in Nursing?

Hey,
I am taking an IT class now at the graduate level for healthcare. You are in a wonderful position to influence a growing market: electronic record keeping. Believe it or not healthcare is lagging behind other industries, leaving the market fresh and open to change. Becoming an RN (ADN) would show you how to take care of patients and how IT processes need to support this complex task. Without any beside experience I would think it would be difficult, but not impossible, to streamline IT issues toward efficient bedside care. An interesting specialty for sure.....wireless medicine, virtual realtime patient support, computerized records, legislation changes...endless possibilities. But I must ask?? how are you with the site of blood and other bodily fluids? ha
