Drug Administration Books

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am a new graduate, and I just started working in a new state. While in Nursing School (CT), every hospital I went to had a book attached to the Pyxis that told you how to mix IV medications, as well as how long to run the medications for. It was a Pink or Green Handbook. This hospital that I now work at doesn't have one. When it's time for me to pull up a medication, or mix it with something, I'm looking it up in the Drug Handbook, which can be annoying. This IV medication book was much easier to follow.

My question is this, does anyone know what the book is called and where I can find this Handbook. I'm a new grad, and they are things that I know how to pull up and/or mix already, but I would love to add it to my Unit.

Let me know if anyone has an idea where I can find it.

Can you contact one of those other hospitals and ask them?

Is this it? I found the 8th ed. and it was green/yellow. This one is the 9th ed. version.

Hi:

Another idea is if you have a pda, just download the entire book (it only cost $44. Lippincott IV drug manual, 9th edition. I find this to be invaluable since they don't have one where I work and the book seems to always disappear from the med room. Now I just punch in the drug and the info comes right up. If your hospital doesn't have the book for a resource, I would definitely consider investing in a pda and just downloading the whole thing. You can can also download epocrates and other useful programs.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I have a friend who has a PDA and told me to get one. Those things are a bit expensive, but I guess I will have to get one.

The book I'm looking for isn't a drug handbook, but It's just book with how to mix all IV medications. I called my old hospital in CT, and they are going to make me copies, as well as send me the 800 number for the other books.

Thanks guys for all your help thus far.
