I'm currently a freshman taking 2 nursing pre-reqs and two other classes. These classes were actually meant for another major I was planning to go into, two happened to sort of overlap (english and calculus-I don't really need calc). I've wanted to pursue nursing for a while, but I only recently persuaded my family to support my goals. Recently, I took a midterm in the non-nursing (gen chem) class. I failed. I'm currently taking >15 credits and I've been overwhelmed. Since I failed, I'm reconsidering whether I want to continue taking this course. I know I have to take different chemistry classes for nursing. My question is, should I drop this class if I know it will not turn out well? How bad will a W in a non-nursing class look? And will this count for my nursing/science GPA if I do end up with a poor grade? I'm not planning to pursue the nursing program at the university I'm currently at and advising here is really poor, so I don't have a lot of resources.

Hello,
It's best to have a "W" on your transcript than a "WF" or an "F". But you mentioned the failed exam is the midterm... many times that's the deadline to withdraw with a "W". Check with your Registrar... it might be too late for a "W".
