Driving to Sacramento, CA to get my license

Published

I am expecting my NCLEX pass letter from the California LVN board sometime within the next week. I am wondering if anybody has actually driven up (or down) to Sacramento to pay for their license in person. I want to start working right away and I read on here that some people took their pass letter up to the board and were able to get a temporary license until the permanent one came in.

If my letter comes tomorrow, my husband and I will be driving up north on late Thursday night and getting there early Friday morning.

I just am curious to find out before I drive up there from Los Angeles.

People are doing it all the time for the fingerprints. Why not pay while you are there, too?? Sounds reasonable, if not for the ugly drive up the I5.

I learned this trick from my supervisor. She had done it before. One year both of us drove up to get our licenses because we waited to the very last minute to get our CEUs done. I paid for mine and they gave me an embossed receipt. I was told that the embossed receipt functioned as my license until the real one came in the mail. No problems whatsoever. Everyone was nice about it.

Well, I did pass but I ran around getting court documents because the board wanted official originals from something I did 6 years ago. The documents got to the board a week ago and the lady I spoke with said she has 60 days to review them but it wouldn't take that long. She told me to call back in 3 weeks (which is now 2) to see how things are going.

I have no doubts that I will be given my license but the wait is frustrating. I can't believe it takes this long. IT SUCKS!!!

Anyways, I should have my job within a month or so.

Good luck everyone.
