I got into Johns Hopkins University accelerated BSN program for 2005 (starts in June) if you want to talk.

Smile123,

How are you coming to terms with putting out 48K for tuition? Also, can you provide your profile in terms of academics -- did you feel it was competitive? How's the waitlist situation at JHU? Did you have to interview? How soon were you contacted by JHU after the application cutoff date? And, lastly, what do think made you a successful candidate in JHU's application and acceptance process?

Thanks

I applied for the Spring 2006 term, who knows if I'll get in, I kind of applied on a whim. It seems like a good program though! I hope that if I don't get accepted to my #1 choice I get accepted at . Did you apply?

I was told by Ms. O'Rourke, about 4 months ago, that they were not sure if they would offer a Sprng 2006 (17 month) class. She told me that it would be a good idea to start the applcation process by summer of 2005 for the summer 2006 class. I still have to get transcripts in and my personal essay.

I have already applied to for 2006 and was told by Ms. Breslin, just last week, that they have moved the application deadline back from April 1, to May 1. So, therefore, they will not begin the acceptance/approval process until after May 1, at which time she said to expect to receive notification (letters) sometime in June.

JHU is NOT offering the 17 month hybrid anymore. It was a one shot deal. They will only offer the 13.5 accelerated (starts in June) or the 24 month traditional (starts in Sept)

Smile123,

How are you coming to terms with putting out 48K for tuition for Johns Hopkins?

I'm taking out loans; it's a good investment in my future.

Also, can you provide your profile in terms of academics -- did you feel it was competitive?

Yes, it's very competitive. I know 2 people who did not get into the BS program. I've also met the people at accepted students day who did. :p

How's the waitlist situation at JHU?

I don't know. I was accepted for the direct entry BSN to masters program.

Did you have to interview?

Only the masters candidates are interviewed.

How soon were you contacted by JHU after the application cutoff date?

It depends. You can apply for early decision by turning in your application in Oct (I forget the exact date). Then you can find out by Dec 15th. If you do early decision and are admitted, you drop all outstanding applications to other schools. They ask you for a deposit within 2 weeks of acceptance.

I applied early, but did not do early decision. I had other school applications so I just turned them all in around the same time. People received acceptances sometime in March. They have an accepted students day in early April so you can meet other students, current students, faculty and gather more info. It was very informative.

And, lastly, what do think made you a successful candidate in JHU's application and acceptance process?

They look at your GPA, your pre-req GPA, GREs (for masters), essay, recommendations and the overall individual. They do not require health care experience, but I had lots of volunteer experiencess that I used in my essay, so I'm sure that helped.

Thanks

What is your GPA? Have you done your pre-reqs yet? What is your pre-req GPA? Have you done any volunteer or health related work experience? What is your goal? Why do you want to go into nursing? Why Hopkins? You should be able to articulate your reasons clearly in your essay. Good luck!

Yeah, I visited when they had one of their open houses. I'm not too familiar with Philly, but I had taken the AMTRAK in from Harrisburg, just under a 2 hr. ride, and from their I had walked maybe 10 blocks, after walking across some bridge, to . The area seemed pleasant enough. Some of the buildings and architecure within Drexel's immediate radius was very nice. Saw a lot of people biking along with the traffic, which did not seem to be near as crazy as New York's (cabbies). The facility was not anything to write home about compared to JHU's, but that is no biggey.

I can't tell you what they are specifically looking for. To be honest, I was more impressed with JHU's open house as they were more than forthcoming in their info, if you got them one on one, and really seemed eager to reel you in. All in all, what puts Drexel ahead of JHU is simply based on costs and time. I'd much rather pay half the tuition and finish 2.5 - 3 months earlier, largely due to age and familial responsibilites. Just my personal preference.

Good luck, CharleyB. Admissions says that we should have confirmation, one way or the other, by the end of June.
