Dressing after JP drain removal.

The dressing requirement of a surgeon after removing JP drain associated with total hip replacement is to cover the insertion site with Steri-strip, Combine gauze and Elastoplast. Without an occlusive dressing, the insertion site is potentially at risk of infection.

All nurses at the same ward follow on the dressing requirement of this surgeon.

One issue is that this kind of absorbent dressing and pressure dressing is not occlusive.

Should Steri-strip, Duoderm or similar dressing, Combine gauze and Elastoplast be used together to work as absorbent dressing, occlusive dressing, and pressure dressing?

How did you dress the insertion site after JP drain removal?

I have only ever seen the surgeons order gauze and tape over JP drain sites. I wouldn't like duoderm over the site because it's not absorbent enough. If there is still drainage, it would get awfully moist beneath this and potentially cause breakdown.
