Dress Uniform?

Published

I was just wondering.... Since it is my understanding that the revised AR 670-1 has not yet been released, what are you people that are getting ready for AMEDD OBLC classes this year doing about the dress uniform?

I understand that, as of now, the AR/AG are only required to have the Green Class A uniform, but what about those of you going Active Duty? Have they given any indication as to the implementation of the new Dress Blue Service Uniform? Are they still doing the dress uniform inspection in OBLC? It does not effect me right now, but it would really suck to drop $500 on a set of Blues, only to have them change it...

I would also like to know if, as an Officer, I will be authorized to wear the Aviation Crewmember Wings that I earned as an Enlisted Soldier?

You can always risk procrastinating on buying your uniforms until the change comes out. You would be surprised how long a person can go without having to have a certain type of uniform. Unfortunately, going into OBLC, as in any school situation, you will most likely be inspected immediately for all of your uniform and equipment requirements. Also, normally, once a new uniform is coming into use, you can usually find it available for purchase ahead of the "must have" date. Since you know what the uniform requirements are, ask if they are available at the clothing sales store and buy the new uniforms instead of the old ones.

Offhand, as I recall, most enlisted awards/honors may be worn by officers. This should be checked in the current version of the regulation.

The wear out date for the Army Greens was just extended out to 2013. So, if you buy one, you'll be able to use it for that long. As I recall, Reserve officers are not required to buy a Dress Blue uniform, even though active officers are. But, I have only met a few Reserve officers who don't actually own one.

If you plan to be in the Army for a long while, then you should go ahead and buy Dress Blues. They are more respected when you go to large scale events and since they will eventually be part of the regular Class-A uniform, I don't think it would do any harm to go ahead and buy one now.

Of course, I also think I'd wait to see the packing list for Reserve students going to OBLC. If there is no info specific to Reserve officers, call them and ask. I'd probably only buy what is on the packing list initially and buy other things later as needed.
