dream hospital vs dream department

Hi! I have a bit of a dilemma and need some advice/feedback. I currently work at my dream hospital but not my dream department. I love this hospital because of the city, population, benefits and overall just a great hospital and I definitely plan on retiring with them. My dream job is to be a pediatrics nurse but my hospital does not offer training and therefore, I cannot get into the peds department without any experience. Another hospital is offering training for their pediatrics department. The problem is, I do not want to leave my dream hospital but another hospital is offering the training. Should I try to work both jobs? At my current job I work 28 hours per week, 8 hour shifts at night (3 shifts one week, 4 another week but it's mainly clumped together so essentially I pretty much work every other week) and the other hospital does 12 hour shifts- 3 days a week. Also, it's tough trying to explain to my family that although I'm at my dream hospital, it's not my dream department. They think I should just stay at my current job but I don't know what to do. Please help!

I would not try to work both jobs, especially with a schedule like that. It takes a lot of focus to learn a new specialty. You would be spread too thin. I would leave your current job and take the peds job. Just leave on good terms so that you will be welcome back if it doesn't work out.
