Doubting Myself in Nursing

Published

I have been a nurse for about a year and a half now and my last job I did fairly well. However, I changed jobs to be home more with my kids. the new job I got the nurse patient ratio is 1:44 I am totally panicking and a med pass takes me forever to finish. I feel overwhelmed and have become doubting myself as a nurse. I had a incident happen and I called one of the other nurses on another wing to help and well I may get fired for what she done. :bluecry1:

Can you share what actually happened? It takes awhile to find the perfect fit for jobs. I think that if the ratio is high and there are other opportunities for jobs that offer better working conditions, I would consider leaving to preserve your license.

You are not respondsible for her actions she is respindsible for her actions,do not alllow yourself to be set-up or feel belittled, I undersstand med pass to that many patients is difficult all lpns understand that your become faster, and confident remember your best defense is common sense and allways defend yourself dont allow yourself to get termed,if the heat is on change shifts, job hunt and give notice is generally is done in some instance use your best judgement LPNS ROCK

Well she came over and was talking really loud to the Res. and was saying mean things. Well the DON called me today and got my testimony and well they are going to fire her. I hate that but I wasn't going to lie for her like she wonted me to I have to protect my own license.:crying2:

You did the right thing, telling the truth is always right:saint:. The other nurse was there to assist you. Do not feel that is in any way your fault:nono:. I feel for you on the ratio. I work noc's and Nurse to patient ratio is 1:74:cry:.. Thank heaven I only have 4 res. with routine meds at midnight. But, the prn's are phenomenal.

Wow! I thought 44 was bad, and it takes me so long to do 44, how in the world to you do it. I know what you mean I have alot of 8p's but alot more PRNS, and inpatient Res.
