I just got my syllabus the other day and there are a few assignments in there. I'm usually pretty good with dosage calcs, but I've never seen questions like these two before and was hoping I did them correctly. Also, the instructor uses Gm as an abbreviation. I am assuming this means grams?? Is that right? I've only ever seen g used and can't for the life of me figure out what else it could mean (see below).
1) Order: Staphcillin 1.5 Gm IM
Vial Label: Staphcillin 6 Gm/vial in dry form
Reconstitution: Add 8.6 sterile saline to yield 500 mg/ml.
**Thats all it says!!! There's no actual question! I am assuming they want to know how many ml's to give for the dose and I came up with 3ml. There's nothing else to use except the 500 mg/ml correct?? Thats really the only thing I need to know to find out how many ml's will give a 1.5 Gm injection right???
2) Order: Penicillin 400,000 units IM
Vial label: Penicillin 1,000,000 units in dry form
Reconstitution: Add 3.6 sterile diluent to yield 250,000 units/ml.
**Assuming the same as above I came up with 1.6ml
Is there anything I'm not using/doing/assuming that I should be??? Thanks for any help!!!
