for those that are done with a&p and chem

Hello.....

Doing some pre-planning here. I already have my fall classes set for algebra and bio. For spring, I will need to take my last math, which is an algebra II then I was thinking of taking a & p I...then the next Fall Chem with say Spanish and the following Spring a & p II with human growth/develop.

Reading through some of the threads, I'm starting to think that I'd be better off to pair the math with chemistry. I was afraid to do that b/c I thought chem would end up being more of a math class, and it would be better with an 'easier' class. I figured a & p is more memorization along with how it all works. I realize I will have TONS of index cards to get me through, and I'm even planning on buying a medical terminology book to study during the Holiday break (yes, I know I do preplan...but I work 40 hours so I must!)

I'm also reading where a background in chem would be most helpful for a/p but I was hesitant thinking that the chem would "compete" with the advanced math, but perhaps since only algebra I is req for chem...it would be a better fit? Plus then the a/p would be matched with the "easier" class, and another bonus would prob be going from a/p I in the Fall to a/p II in the Spring (without the summer break that I will fill up with my 2nd eng class) Okay, I'm almost convincing myself as I type, :chuckle but I'd really appreciate some feedback from people who have taken these!

HELP!!!!!!

Thanks,

Michele

Chemisty has been the toughes subject for me. Mind you, I have a huge mathematical phobia too :chuckle

My suggestion is to try to take Alg II before Chemistry. I took AlgII and Chemistry and honestly do not recommend it. I know many will beg to differ, but I am just recalling to you my experience. If math is what you are stron in, then you will more than likely do just fine if you take them both together. If it is not, I'd consider taking Alg II a semester before attempting Chemistry.

Also, it is best to take a science one at a time. Do not try and double up because they are very challenging and demanding courses. It is best to tackle them one at a time and do good in them.

Best of luck to you, :)

Jessica

Hey, that's a good idea! You would be surprised how much the two courses can be alike. I honestly am concerned for you though as you are working 40 hrs/week and going to school fulltime...that's a huge schedule there. Best of luck to ya!

Hi Doug,

No, I'm only attending part time 7/8 credits per semester. That's why I can only take 2 subjects at a time, but so far it's a system that works!

Hi Jessica,

I understand I should't take two sciences at a time, but would an advanced math and a/p I be a good idea? The more I read about that subject, the more worried I become! It seems like it will take all my focus and energy to just get through that subject. I don't know if I can handle it with math! Have you taken the a and p yet? I've done well so far with math but that's because I do all the 6 hours of work assigned in those darn 1 day a week classes! I spread it out...but last time I took my math with the english and it worked great...english took only about 2 days time, minimal studying. But hey, this is all a FUN ride right? :uhoh21: seriously it is..but daunting sometimes.

Thanks much

Doug,

I am actually finishing A&P now. I don't recommend you doing it before Chemistry because it starts off with just that....Chem

My school make Chemistry a pre req for A&P for that reason.

I would suggest taking chem before A&P. It will help you better understand all that physiology better! I know people who tried to take them together and they had a tough time. It's better to have the background so you can reason your way through things rather than having to rely on rote memorization that doesn't help you really to learn the concepts.

I'm in the middle of A&P 2 right now. My school does not require chem at all for their ADN. I got an A in A&P 1 and am carrying one now also, but I struggled/am struggling with the chemistry parts of it. It's real easy to see how taking chem first would have been beneficial. I'm still toying with the idea of taking chemistry at some point because it will be needed if I go for the BSN.

It depends what the chem is like! I'm taking intro chem (last pre-req) at a university known for it's chemical engineering program. I already had the higher phys chem within another branch of the university system, but algebra, applied math, statistics never prepared me for this stuff. Granted, I'm doing it in 5 weeks. Proceed with caution!!!
