Hi everyone,
I wanted to start a thread for the Nursing program at Dominican University in San Rafael, CA since there's not a lot of newer posts about this school.
I know that it's a beautiful school but tuition is pretty steep...I mean it's a Private school after all.
Just curious to see if anyone applied and got accepted already. I was reading the acceptance rate and it seems like it's easier to get in this program rather than USF or CSUs
Ahh,such a late reply I hope youre liking DU as much as I did when I went there.I graduated in '11. It is such a beautiful school, awesome location and great nursing program--well when I was there. This was before the classes got waitlisted. Not a lot of people were into nursing when I was in the program so i didnt have to worry about waiting for a spot in a class. The program was pretty hard then and Im sure that the curriculum has only harder now.Youll love it.nursing is hard in general!Currently I am an ER nurse at a local level 1 trauma centers and I am grateful for DU and their help.If you have any questions let me know.I dormed there for 3.5 years and the last semester i was there I commuted from SJ and SF. Yes i have an insane amt of student loan debt but everyone in my class pretty much did too.Yes there are other schools that you can go to for wayyyyy cheaper but i appreciated the low student to teacher ratio and the helpful staff.
WOW!- I logged in here and saw this post and it gave me goosebumps on how far I've come along.
Update:
Finished Nursing school at DUoC with Summa Cum Laude.
Passed the NCLEX 1st try- with 75 questions
Got a job in the Bay Area as an RN in the Cath Lab in less than 2 months of getting my RN License (which is my dream department btw!)
I can't complain. Thank You DUOC.
Honestly- if anyone is reading this and you're trying to get into nursing school- don't get so caught up on the label your University. You may be accepted into university this and university that and you may think other Universities are better because of the name etc. but it all comes down to YOU and what you make of your whole experience in nursing school.
Example: I was obsessed with getting into USF and when I didn't get in- I was devastated and felt like I wasn't good enough. Fast forward to now- I know a bunch of USF alumni still trying to find a job and can't find one. The point is- make the most out of your experience. Be a go-getter. Stand out. Help others. etc. It's not about Oh I went to this school and that school- our program is better. it's really about you as an individual and your performance.
