Dog with broken Pelvis

Published

I posted the in the break room, family, pets section with no responses. I'm reposting it here in hopes to get better responses, I'm sorry mods!

My 5 month old terrier mix, leah, was hit by a car on friday. She had a fractured ilium. My primary vet sent me to an ER vet 45 mins away where there was an orthopedic specialist. There they treated her for shock and wanted to do a $6,000 surgery.

I'm only an ER tech and had already spent my entire pay check (it was pay day they day she was hit) on her emergency care. I can in no way afford the surgery.

So I took her home, they had given her a fentanyl patch and a 5 day prescription of remadyl. She is on strict "crate rest" for 8 weeks.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has had dog with a pelvic fracture and how you went about helping them use the bathroom and such. She is in so much pain when I take her outside she will not go. She has urinated on herself a few times... and during they day when I sit with her I pull her out of her crate on the big dog bed so she can lay with me by the couch. When she has to go she tries to pull herself off the bed and will pee right next to it.

She is eating and drinking well. I make sure she gets enough water but have only been feeding her once a day because bowel movements are extremely painful for her.

It is heartbreaking watching her in so much pain. I have tried to keep her as still and calm as possibly. The fracture in on the right side so she only lays on her left side and when she tried to move around to get comfortable I don't know what to do!

Just looking for some input from someone who has possibly delt with this before.....
