I graduated nursing school last month and am taking my boards in a few weeks. I have been applying and searching with not much response yet and am becoming nervous about the amount of time it could take to find a nursing position.
My question is whether working as a medical assistant in a doctor's office (I became an MA to save money to put me through nursing school) to keep the bills paid while I search for a RN job will hurt my chances of getting hired at a hospital? Especially if it is not an office requiring a lot of technical or clinical skills? I really need a job soon to have an income, but want to do everything I can to finally accomplish my dream of working as a nurse.

I bet you that YOU WILL NOT get hired as an MA with almost being an RN. It will for sure come up in the interview too. I am an LPN and I can't even get hired for an MA.They say I am over qualified and assume i would quit as as soon as a beter paying nurse job comes around...which is exacty the case even for you!! LOL Hospitals are over-rated and I doubt you will get in at a hospital newly graduated. Not sure what you can do for now....I think there is a temp license you can get to work while waiting on your license to actually be issued. You should call and find out! It is given as long as you have passes the boards i think. I might be wrong it's been so long since I took my LPN boards...Good luck...its like a probationary license.
