I will be graduating in December and I am very interested in working at McLean Hospital. I know many have recommended doing a yr. of med/surg. but I got in to nursing specifically to be a psych. nurse. So I was wondering if anyone know anything about McLean?
Thanks.

I don't really know anything, I'm going to be a senior in fall.
All I can say is that I occasionally do a job search using Monster.com, and I've seen "new grad" jobs offered there in the past. I just did a search now and jobs in general are not plentiful, presumably because all the new grad positions are being filled? Perhaps in the late winter, when you will presumably be available for hire, you can get the jump on the May-June 2009 graduates, who won't be getting their NCLEX results until July or so, anyway.
But if you want McLean, target them, learn as much about them and the kind of care and services they provide, as well as a little history, and be persistent (without being obnoxious or annoying). Contact them and say that you really want to work there for reasons x, y, and z. You might have to consider per diem work at other hospitals until they decide they want you, but that would only serve in your favor. As for experience, if you can talk knowledgeably about psych nursing, they might be persuaded that you can do psych nursing.
And about the med-surg thing, if you know what you want then go for it. That's what my advisor says.

yes they do...go onto their website. One of my classmates worked there while in school and she confirmed that they do hire new grad RN's. However they do not hire LPN's.
I just happened to be reading a New Yorker this morning and saw an ad for 3 East at McLean (DBT residence for young women). I checked McLean's employment site, and there are two jobs advertised, one 16 hour position and one 40 hour position. Both say experience preferred but not required.
