Does anyone know much about the ID badge laws in California?

Is it legal for a clinic to not enforce ID badge rules? I recently started working at a small (yet very busy) clinic and I noticed the staff does not wear ID badges. Throughout nursing school, we weren't even allowed in the clinical facilities without badges, so I figured it was the same "out in the real world". Plus I feel it would make the patients more comfortable.

There are MA's and LVN's, and as an LVN I would like for there to be a way that I could be differentiated from the MA's other than me just stating it. Does that make me seem like a bad person? :( I don't feel as though I'm above them; I really like everyone there and I don't want to come across as someone with a superiority complex. However, I did work hard for my title and I want it to be out in the open lol :(.

I don't think there's a formal law? It's more likely based on facility practice. Sounds like they don't have a policy. You could always get an engraved name Pin with your title on it and wear it on your uniform...the facility may notice it and consider getting badges for everyone then....seems poor practice as to not have a way to identify the staff.

I don't think there's a formal law either...though you could ask the BRN/BVNPT about it.

In addition to the ID badge, some facilities give nurses a separate badge to wear designating their license...or some facilities give such a tag to just the RN to wear. Some facilities don't do anything other than issue the ID badge. And some facilities don't even issue those IDs.

I agree with Nicki: your facility's uniform policy permitting, get yourself an engraved tag with your name and license on it (you can usually get them made at office supply stores or order it online), or get a lovely LVN pin to wear.
