I applied to VCU traditional BSN program for fall 2010 and I couldn't be more nervous! I am not from VA so I don't know a lot about the schools there or how competitive they are. Does anyone know how competitive VCU's BSN program is? I will be transferring from a four year university and had most of my pre-reqs completed by the time I filled out theapplication. What is considered a competitive GPA? What GPA would you say is the "minimum" they would consider for admissions if they like my personal statement, recommendations, and other qualifications?
Also, is the school located in a safe area in Richmond? I have never been to Richmond and if I go to school there there is a good chance that I will have to live by myself. Does anyone know where a good place is to live? Should I try to find housing throught the school (if i get in)?

My daughter is in the School of Nursing at VCU working on her BSN and she loves it! She doesn't get on Allnurses but I enjoy reading the posts. It is a city school that happens to be the capital so like all city schools there are the good sections and the not-so-good sections of town but it's very beautiful and it's just a few blocks from the James River. It has so much history being the capital. Of course the medical center is second to none. If you tell anyone that you're in the school of nursing at VCU you immediately get, "ooohh's" and "wow's"
There are lots of places to live and many campus apartments. There is one upper classman dorm that's just one block from the School of Nursing building and the MCV hospital where you'll do most of your clinicals. If someplace you have to go is too far to walk, the city bus can take you. The School is trying to set up a dorm just for nursing students. Right now they have one floor of a dorm where all the freshman nursing students are housed. You would love it there. I have to say that VCU was my daughter's last choice of colleges but they offered her a substantial scholarship and now that she's there she wouldn't rather be anyplace else.
