Does anyone feel that their personal statement got them an interview?

In addition to the title-question, any references by the interviewing committee member to what was written in one's personal statement? There appears to be hardly any threads regarding the importance of one's PS. Just curious!

I think that my personal statement really helped secure me both of my interviews, although I never had anyone interviewing me specifically reference it. The statement was my opportunity to address perceived weak areas in my application and what I was doing/had already done to improve them. It was basically my platform to discuss anything pertinent about myself that was not otherwise apparent on paper. For sheer lack of evidence though, an amazing personal statement won't balance out glaring deficiencies in an application.

Totally agree. i do think a lot of emphasis seemingly is placed on "stats". But i understand, a less than stellar academic record will get you nowhere.

I write terribly and have very little patience with meaningless conversation about my goals/dreams/accomplishments/blah/etc. I got 3 interviews out of 3 places I applied so it couldn't matter that much

Guess we can almost conclude that your personal statement won't matter much provided all other areas of your application stand out.

That's my opinion/experience at least
