Hello, All
my Question is this I found a ADN Program that seems to be a good one but when i read this below i became scared is this school legit. please let me know, thanks in advance.
"accredited by the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and approved by the State Board of Career College & Schools as well as the Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN).
ACICS is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education

I've seen schools with that accreditation before. It's an accrediting agency that offers accreditation to private schools and universities. My understanding is that these schools are usually the "for-profit" schools. Lots of people have very strong opinions on how good these types of schools actually are, but that's up to you to decide.
As long as your Board of Nursing accepts their degree, you should be qualified to take NCLEX after graduating. And once you have your RN, regardless of what type of degree or where you got it from, it really doesn't much matter what the school's accreditation was.
But if you're not sure or have any questions about the school's legitimacy, you should call the Board of Nursing for your state and ask if they allow graduates of that program to sit for NCLEX.

I disagree -- whether you attended an accredited or unaccredited program can matter quite a bit, sometimes when you least expect it, and continues to matter throughout your career. Most graduate programs require that you be a graduate of an accredited program to apply, and some employers only hire grads of accredited programs. Not that many, certainly not most, but why close off any future career avenues and opportunities to yourself right at the beginning of your journey?? I just replied last night to a thread by someone who has applied for a position s/he is really interested in and well-qualified for except that, now that an interview has been scheduled, s/he has re-read the job posting and noticed (having overlooked it earlier) that it states they only hire graduates of an accredited program -- and the poster isn't. I just don't see how one can justify attending an unaccredited program these days.

If the program is not NLNAC or CCNE accredited, I would steer clear. You can go to the websites to see if the school is seeking accreditation. I started a program that was not accredited and learned quickly how difficult it was going to be for me to secure employment. Also, in order to continue my education was going to be difficult to get into a program because of the school’s lack of either of the two above mentioned accreditation bodies.
So, you live in Ohio? I know Indiana Wesleyan University will accept those pursuing an RN to BSN from schools not accredited by NLNAC or CCNE. IWU is accredited by CCNE.
Anyways, I hope this helps. Good luck to you!

I stand corrected! You're absolutely right, and I hadn't even thought about that when I posted earlier. I guess I was thinking more short-term...like once you pass NCLEX, an RN is an RN, regardless of where you went to get it.
Thank you, all for your wisdom in this situation. And yes ,you all had very great points and due to this I have made the decision to seek another school. Due to I'm already in this type of situation, where my LPN schol wasn't accredited and I am truly hurting because of this now . In the fact that most colleges dont recogize my LPN License so the bridges programs I cant get into. thats why, I'm seeking any RN Program I can find.
Oooh, I'm sorry to hear you're in such a tough situation (although it does illustrate my concerns). Best wishes for finding a good program! :redpinkhe
