I need to ask, what is a student nurse associate?

IF you mean are you paid for preceptorship, or while doing your clinical rotation, the answer is "no". It's part of your clinical nursing experience of school. It's not a paid position, unless you are hospital employee.

if you mean, Being paid as a graduate nurse, yes. You would be paid at the rate a hospital pays graduate nurses, at a rate similar to that of a CNA or other unlicensed assistive person.

By student nurse associate, perhaps do you mean nurse extern?

There are nurse externships here in Michigan that you can apply for and work during the summer semester. They are considered learning/educational progams and some actually have a class for their externs once a week. Most of the programs require that the student has had at least 2 med-surg clinicals, which means that most students can be an extern after their first year of nursing school. Most extern programs in the Detroit area pay from $13.50-$16.00/hour and they work from 32-36 hours per week during the summers.

They may even offer them during the school year, I am assuming they would, I just haven't checked into that seeing that I do not plan to work as an extern during the school year.
