Do you need the Ontario Certificate of Competence when you just received your license

Hello everyone,

I am not familiar yet with the in and outs of CNO. I just want to know if you need the Ontario Certificate of Competence

when you just received your license? I just passed my CRNE last June and will start working this September. TMy employer is asking for that already? I know you will get that certificate when you participate with the QA program and you only do your quality assurance program when you are about to renew your license which is at the end of the year? Am I right?

Is your nursing registration/license, the one you can print on their website the same as Ontario Certificate of Competence?

Thank you. I am sorry for asking such a simple question.

I'm from ON, and I have no idea what the Ontario Certificate of Competence is. If you have just received your license, its unlikely you will need to worry about that now. I got my ON license last year and moved to Alberta 3 weeks later. I did not have to complete it.

I think your employer may be out of date with the current verification practice and may need to read the "Verifying a Nurses Membership" document. In the past, the CNO used a paper system, when a nurse received their initial or renewal of their certificate of registration, they received a proof of payment card that showed two numbers; the registration number and the certificate number. The card was sometimes used incorrectly as proof of registration with the College. If your employer is asking you to show a card/certificate as proof of current registration with the College, then your employer needs to be informed that paper verification is no longer used and they can verify your membership by checking Find a Nurse on the CNO's website. http://www.cno.org/Global/docs/general/45040_FSVerifyingaNurse.pdf

Oh I knew it, thank you guys for your help!! Greatly appreciate it. :redbeathe
