I'm still a student (one semester to go), but there are hospitals in my area w/ & w/out team nursing. Should I stay away from the ones w/ team nursing?...Opinions?....The good & the bad?
My floor has adopted this model and yesterday was my first day. I hate it. The plan is 16 patients, 1 RN, 1 LPN and 1 CNA. The RN is not only responsible for the team essentially. Assessment, Blood transfusions, chemotherapy, discharges and admissions are the RN's responsibility. I think task oriented with that many patients and there is really not critical thinking going on. It creates an environment of paronoia over your license. It may be a short term fix for staffing problems, but ultimately the outcome will be disastrous.
