Do I have a shot? Tell me what you think of my nursing school outline..

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Okay so here is what I have planned.

First I'm going to get the pre-reqs out the way.

Fall 2010-Psychology & Sociology, CNA I certification, BLS certification, & Medication Aide certification

Spring 2011-Anatomy & Physiology I & Statistics, Phlebotomy Technician Certification, take Kaplan Nursing Exam

Summer 2011-Anatomy & Physiology II & Nutrition

Fall 2011-Developmental Psychology & Microbiology

I also plan to volunteer/work at CNA during this year as well.

*note: I plan on making all A's in these classes which will bring my cumulative GPA up to around 2.7. But the GPA won't be this until I have taken all classes end of Fall 2011.

I plan on applying to Queens University(Charlotte, NC) ADN program for either Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 matriculation. Finish and immediately apply to UNC Chapel Hill's RN-BSN program.

Do I have a shot at getting into Queens ADN program?

My current GPA is 2.4. I already have a Bachelor Degree. To get into Queens you have to have at least 2.5. I'm worried that if my GPA is only at 2.7, it won't make me competitive. Queens states that "major emphasis is placed on academic history of the applicant:.

So please let me know what you think.......

Hello,

I'm applying as well at Queens soon and I'm about in the same boat as you. I have about a 2.8 and I'm tryin to raise mine as well. I've gotten all my pre-req's out of the way basically so I can give you insight that may help.

As far as your school schedule goes, A&P is a very timeconsuming and challenging class. I don't know if I would honestly take Statistics with A&P.... you will be forever studying. The other thing I see is Developmental Psychology w/ Microbiology. It may be okay, but microbiology at CPCC was really hard for me. Developmental Psy is a lot of concepts but not too difficult.

Another thing, I dont see why you need anything other then your CNA... why are you getting certified with the other stuff?

I am taking all pre req's at CPCC. I hope they are not too hard, but I have to get them done. I'm adding the other certifications because I honestly don't feel as though Im a good candidate, but I really want to go to nursing school. My academic history does not reflect very well on my true potential and when I submit my app, I just want them to see that I am very serious and dedicated and a good fit for an acceptance letter....:-)

I understand, I had my ups and downs are well with college my first bit... But do not get discouraged... Queens is a great school, I've had a lot of friends accepted from there. Many who were 'average' or slightly above average students. I think you will actually be okay and be a good candidate. Defintely get all your pre-req's out of the way. I've been at CPCC for 4 or 5 years working towards nursing, so I know your frustration. I'm done with all but Microbiology which I have to retake since I didn't pass. I can give you advice if you need. Honestly, CPCC has so many applicants and thats why many get turned down. Queens is private, so less apply here due to tuition costs. You'd have a higher chance in my opinion at Queens then CPCC. This is why I stopped looking at CP's nursing program honestly. I think the Medication Aide is a good extra, but you really don't need the Phleob. or other things in my opinion.

@ erukah...that's one reason I think I have a shot at Queens(private school/tuition costs). So have you taken the Kaplan Nursing entrance exams. I just went to Barnes and Noble and got a study guide. I hope its worth it. I didn't even research what some other good study options might be.

What was the last class you took at CPCC. I am taking psy and sociology this fall. Do you think I would be able to throw Nutrition in on the load?? Im taking all online.

Did you get accepted to queens absn program or wssu absn program?
