Hello Julz16,
Both SFSU and CSUEB will give you extra points for being proficient in other languages. Now CSUEB also takes the TEAS test into consideration. You will want to have scored very high on the TEAS. Lastly do you have any patient care experience? That can also get you some points. For SFSU you must have some multicultural experience like volunteer work.
Julz, there is a lot of competition for the BSN slots in the Bay Area, I was told the average GPA admitted into CSUEB was 3.8, they did take lower but you had to score really high on the TEAS, and usually only a handful get the extra points for being bilingual so you do have an advantage there.
Lastly you do have a wonderful advantage of being young. Lets say worst case scenario you don't get into any of the programs then there are community college programs that you can apply to. They have a lottery system. You can get your ADN, which will still qualify you to take the RN license exam and then you can bridge to BSN. The bridging programs are usually not impacted and that route is not timewise significantly longer than straight BSN programs.
The last consideration is the prenursing option which means you would apply into the prenursing programs which usually are not impacted. Of course this is the longest in that you will be taking classes for a minimum four years, and you will need to really strive for a high GPA the first two years, as then you have to apply to the nursing programs with the same level of competition.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Best of luck.
Thank you for your advice, JBRN2B. I actually (finally) checked my TEAS score online. My adjusted individual test score was an 81.8%. Not as good as I'd hope, but hey, I didn't study. Haha.
If anyone currently in the CSU East Bay or SFSU Nursing Programs can give me any info regarding what your GPA was when you got in, if you had any experience, etc etc, please help! I'd like to get your insight on this. Thanks :]
I would say that you have a great chance to do an ADN program. There are quite a few Community Colleges that are in your area.
The program may not be precisely what you wanted but you can still get where you want to be by this route.
Go to CCCCO.edu and take a look at the schools in your area, they may still be accepting applications for Fall 08.
The best of luck to you!

Hey all, I'm new to this site, so excuse me if I make any mistakes or post in the wrong place ~_~
Well, like most people, the wait for the acceptance, or dare I say, rejection letters is excruciating right now. I've applied to four schools (SFSU/CSU East Bay/USF/Humboldt) and as of today, have been rejected by one (USF). I've been really bummed out about it, since I have visited the campus & it was one of my top choices.
So I've been wondering if I even stand a chance to make it into any of the nursing programs I applied to. I have an overall GPA of 3.7, but my pre-req GPA is around a 3.3 (got B's in both Anatomy & Physio which I took simultaneously last semester, hence, my GPA dropped). I'm getting really worried because I know I have some really fierce competition, and I after reading through all these threads, I feel like everyone is so much more experienced and wiser than I am. Just an FYI, I'm 19 & by the end of this (spring) semester, I'll be entirely done with my general ed. & finishing up additional nursing pre-reqs.
What do you all think?
