Do you have a home office for school? What's your system?

Published

I am thinking of purchasing a desk w/ a hutch system just for school. A "hands off" place for me to keep all my books, even just for reference like AnP, my hole punch, a place to do homework, keep my laptop, not my desktop etc.

I can't seem to focus at the kitchen table, where everyone puts their belongings:angryfire. Mostly, I study outside the home at the library. But w/ two small kids, it isn't always possible to do.

Just wondering about anyone else's system...

The way I solved the problem of not wanting to share space with everyone is I set up a desk and bookcase in my bedroom. I can now go into my room and close the door so that I have the quiet I need but my kids can still get to me if they need to. I also now have a place that is just mine for my study and reference materials. I like my space and it has been a great help to me.:specs:

I live with my parents yet, and I keep my things in my small room 10x11. I also have my bed, dresser, nightstand, etc. in there. The main difficulty I have faced is finding out where to put everything however I have come up with a good system.

I have a smaller desk and there is a section with two shelves, those get my important books. i also have a small cabinet that has three long shelve that I store everything else I need, supplies, references etc. Then my old books and things that aren't used often get put into a rubbermaid bin and underneath my bed. It seems to work out well.

This is how my system is set up. I put my desk in my bedroom along with a seperate bookcase that is tall, with 6 shelves (you can buy the ones at Wal-Mart that you put together). My bedroom is in the basement and is right off the family room. I made the family room into a playroom for my 2 year old, baby proofed the entire thing and I will turn the TV or music on softly and let him play in there while I go into my bedroom to study. I can't hear the music or whatever and I can still watch his every move. If it's possible, dedicate an entire room to your studying. Good luck!

I more or less took over the computer room, thanks to a very accommodating hubby. I have a large desk w/a hutch (for important books) & a big bookcase on the other wall. There's a TV in here, but I am pretty good about focusing. The lighting is good too, plus hubby bought me one of those banker lamps for late nights. I also have an ottoman so I can put up my feet when reading. I painted it a light tan & decorated with a US history theme... I like feeling like I am among great thinkers. :D After school is done, books will all be put away/sold & I will still have a nice room.

JBGC4. This is such a great thread to post. More replies please! :yeah:I have 2 tables both about 3feet x 3feet & I too have such a difficulty in figuring out where/how to work. I like to spread out my stuff out when I work & I don't have enough room. My 1 table has my computer & is where I work & my 2nd table is where I put all of my text books on. The bed in my on-campus apartment is tall 'n big, I just thought of putting a shelf underneath my bed - Oh Cool, I just thought of that now!! I defiantly am going to move in a couple weeks in advance just to organize everything & find my system.
