Do dads get leave for newborns?

Hi, my fiancé just gave birth to our daughter last night. I'm a CNA in a nursing home working full time. There's been quite a few ladies who've recently left for maternity leave there. So my daughter was due Nov 29. She came early and so now it's timed so that we get released from the hospital Thanksgiving night. I work thirds and would prefer to be there with them our first night home. This is our first child. Well I had someone cover my shifts the last two night (I personally found willing people). Well I told the scheduler today I was wanting to take off Thursday night and she says I really can't because I'm full time I need to just come in. Is there any sort of labor laws that give new fathers a few days off from work? This is a place that wants you to come in if you're throwing up or have to jam tissues up your nose to stop snot from running on residents so I didn't know if this was true.

Yes there is fmla possible (aka paternity leave)

I think it may depend if you have at least one year. Not sure tho

Check HR policy, most places offer a 2 week paternity leave. For FMLA you would have to justify having to be home to take care of mom and her doctor would have to fill out papers for you to do it. If she was a c-section and needing help with daily things, the doc might do it. But only if you qualify.
