Do Chicago Hospitals Accept ADN RNs?

Published

Hi everyone! I have recently moved to Chicago and have been trying to apply to hospital jobs but am not sure really which good hospitals accept ADN RNs? Can anyone share their experiences please? Thank you! :)

It it is very hard for nurses without an BSN to find a position in many Chicago hospitals.

A lot of big name hospitals (UIC, Advocate, Rush, Northwestern...) in the area are shying away from ADN for Magnet status, they look at the percentage of BSN versus ADN, and I want to say they look for 80%. My hospital system typically does not hire ADNs if there is a BSN applicant instead, but not always. HRs will give you the run around. When I was looking for a job, I went to my hospital where they told me that there was no HR and to call the hotline. When I interviewed, there of course was an HR there. That being said, we had an employee who was from the South and didn't know anybody. She applied to the units she wanted to work on, and then just walked onto our unit unannounced to speak to our manager and introduce herself. She got hired a week later because our manager hand-pulled her application (she was ADN at the time) instead of HR choosing the applicants. My advice to you is to be super agressive, especially since you are at a slight disadvantage. A lot of hospitals will expect you to get your BSN in the future, although they will pay for almost all the cost. Another idea is to try to join a nurses social group through meetup or the illinois nurses association. A lot of hiring is also done by who you know, and that might also be a way to get your application pulled.
