Several months ago there was a post on this forum about educator salaries for a hopeful MSN. I am an NP and will soon have my DNP. I am considering transitioning from a primary clinical role to that of academic faculty at a university. I recognize that I would likely take a significant pay cut although am not sure how much. I think that 50,000-60,000 starting salary may be a common range for a clinical assistant professor position but am not certain. According to the AACN, the average salary for master's prepared assistant professors in schools of nursing was $73,633 in 2014. Can anyone provide me with specifics for a starting salary for a DNP prepared faculty with a 9-month contract in the Southeast?
Also, how difficult is it to maintain clinical proficiency and needed hours for NP recertification when serving in a primary faculty role? Will supervision of NP students count towards specialty recertification? I know many of my faculty worked in community clinics ran by the school of nursing and assumed that this may have been part of the reason.
Can anyone also speak to dual faculty appointments in a clinical role and how common it is to have NP faculty have part of their hours dedicated to clinical practice.
Thank you.

If the university is a state university, you can usually find the actual salaries online. The primary salary will be based more on the position, than the degree. i.e. affiliate faculty, vs. associate prof, vs. full prof. The degree will then factor into the negotiated/Offered salary.
