Has anyone belonged to or heard of Diversity CRNA for Minorites wanting to enter the CRNA field? If so how was it for you and would you recommend it for others?

I attended the Miami event for Diversity CRNA. It was a geat experience. I recieved a tremendous amount of information on the best way to get into a CRNA program. There were SRNA's as well as CRNA's and PRogram Directors from several schools. The schools were able to present their programs and how they interview, what kind of candidates they are looking for, and each school had a couple of current students who gave input and their perspective on student life. Amazing stuff. I do not know of another program anywhere that provides such relevant information in one sitting. I understand that Lena Gould, the program founder, is putting on two more programs in 2010. One at Duke University and I think there is one more at the University of Maryland. One word about Lena. I have never met someone so dedicated to helping others achieve. Lena puts these programs on so that others can have the best chance at making it into the nurse anethesia world. One by one minorities are being helped and making the cut into CRNA programs. Lena is a CRNA herself and you can read her story at DiversityCRNA.com If you ever have a chance to make it to one of the programs go...you will never regret it and it might be the thing that helps you get in a program.

Let me just say being apart of the Diversity CRNA Mentorship Program has been a God-send! I went to an information session at Rutger's University in New Jersey and haven't looked back since. During the luncheon the information given was invaluable. There were representatives from various programs, many w/the Directors present giving detailed information regarding admission requirements, what they look for in applicants, etc. She also had Frank Purcell from the AANA who also presented and that is HUGE! There were current SRNA students, CRNA graduates and the like all available and ready to answer any questions a potential applicant may have. I am truly greatful for Lena and all that she does for us. I have never met someone so willing to help others gain access into the CRNA profession. Trust me, just step out on faith and go to the luncheon, you won't regret it!!!
