Distance Learning or On-Site Lecture for Anatomy?

Published

I'm jumping into school again after being out for 15 years! Life is much different now than it was then as I have 3 children and a hubby and much less free time than I used to. However, I have long wanted to go back to school and get my nursing degree so I finally decided "there is no time like the present!" and decided to jump right in.

We homeschool so my days are filled with school and activities for my kids so at present I will be striving to keep classes and labs scheduled in the evenings and weekends.

My quandry is this - For my Anatomy pre-req should I register for the Distance Learning lecture which then has lab time on Saturdays or for an Evening weekday lecture which has the corresponding lab time on another weekday evening?

Never having taken a true distance learning course, there is a part that appeals to me (especially the part about not having to drive anywhere considering the cost of gas!) but I wonder if I give something up not having the face-to-face experience with the professor?

Thanks for reading! Any suggestions?

I have taken both distance and lecture courses and I would have to say that if you are familar with Anatomy then take it online, but I never had any sort of Biology so I was very happy to take it in lecture. My instructor gave us so much of his own insight, as well as tricks to remembering things. As far as distance courses I would have to say that I do not retain as much as I could, because I either look everything up in the book or on the pc. It is up to you but I recommed the lecture. Good luck with your choice.

I suggest lecture for anatomy. I have had both online and lecture and find that with some classes, online will work but anatomy is a very important class and worth going to campus to take. Good luck with your decision.

I think it depends on how motivated you are and how you learn best. For me personally, I would do the on-site lecture because I'm able to soak in the material better when it's being taught to me rather than teaching myself. I have taken 2 online classes, one in microbiology and one in chemistry, and I didn't do that well in either of them compared to the rest of my classes. But others do just as well in online classes as they do on-site.

I've done both, and it really depends on how you learn and discipline. I enjoyed distance because I could do it when I got done with work, and was nice and comfy in my jammies. Drawback? You have 3 children and I don't. If you think too much of "life" will get int he way, then go to class. If you can have that uninterrupted time to spend learning in jammies, go for it!
