  1. Congrats on your new career!! Enjoy and celebrate!!
  2. I don't have it, but my husband does and heaven forbid he have to sit through that thing!! That being said, keep in mind you are allowed breaks during the test. Just keep your clock counter in mind. Even if you have to set a schedule of breaking for 5 every 30, then so be it. There is no set limit for breaks; only your clock. I took earplugs with to the testing center, but they had headphones that worked just as well. I knew if I didn't have those babies on, I'd be lokking around at every noise. Best of luck!!
  3. I felt the same way....BELIEVE ME!! I took it on the first, and on the 3rd found out I failed. I thought I was a failure to everyone including myself. I told myself I didn't deserve to be a nurse. But ya know what? That day, I filled out my re-take and sent it off, and am bound and determined to pass! You know why? I studied my butt off, I stressed over tests, I put myself and my family through nervous breakdown after nervous breakdown. In the end, I walked a graduation stage and got a degree like all my other peers. I got that far, I know I can do it, and I'm not letting a computer tell me I can't be a nurse!! I'm finishing up the 1st tip of Suzanne's 45 day plan. I've heard it's wonderful. When studying a certain way doesn't help, sometimes you just gotta try a different way! Good luck! Hope this helps!!
  4. I know a few that took the nclex right after school and passed. Some other of my classmates took the course and were actually disappointed in kaplan. I think it's good as far as teaching some strategies, but was also disappointed in its overall "review". I also tested good on their test, and failed the nclex. I think you can get just as much out of some of the cheaper books, as you can the expensive. Just an FYI for some of you who already work in a hospital. Check your policies. Some hospitals will offer Kaplan reimbursement if you pass. I know mine does, and some others do too. If expense is an issue, but you really want to do kaplan, they may help.
  5. I've done both, and it really depends on how you learn and discipline. I enjoyed distance because I could do it when I got done with work, and was nice and comfy in my jammies. Drawback? You have 3 children and I don't. If you think too much of "life" will get int he way, then go to class. If you can have that uninterrupted time to spend learning in jammies, go for it!
  6. Not a problem. Finishing 1st tip now. Willing to do whatever it takes.... Hope to be in your program soon!
  7. I can give you some of Florida's standpoint.... I cut off at 95, and sadly failed.......BUT.......I think I set the bar as the only failing person in my class so far. I had some extenuating circumstances too. Everyone else in my class has passed at 75. They said they had the same thing. They had alot of SATA. They also had drug calcs which they have heard is a higher ended question. They also had prioritization. I had 1 SATA, prior., and NO drug calcs, so I think I was answering on the easier, and hense, not passing side. My CAT score showed near passing except for drugs (which at least in my program we barely had ANY drugs). It sounds like you have nothing to worry about. Just try to keep yourself busy. Work on projects you haven't gotten to because you were studying. There is nothing you can do about the test once that screen goes blank, so there is no point in stressing now. What's done is done, and you can just hope for the best. It sounds like you will be celebrating in no time!!
  8. Sorry. As a new user to this website and just hearing about this program, I was just curious. I'm assuming that, if followed to the letter, it has a reletively good success rate on retake? As I'm sure you can understand, being a retaker is a little more stressful. You wonder if switching programs is a good idea, or to stay with pounding your previous program in your head. I'm all for being open to something new if it will help, but deep down am still a little apprehensive, and now having failed once already, frankly scared to death......
  9. A few schools in Florida heard from students about the HESI. It was mainly due to the fact that the curriculum didn't include the HESI as part of the student's grade. It was not until our practicum, that they were told it would count as part of their grade. This misrepresentation caused some investigation, and I believe no conclusion has come about yet. PS-it is supposed to be a test of nclex success probability; I passed it fine and failed the nclex......thanks HESI:banghead:
  10. I'm just curious. Does anyone know what Suzanne's plan entails? I know you have to do some questions, but does it involve other things? Just curious....
  11. Congrats!! One more step out of the way!!
  12. Good luck to everyone on their nclex exams. STOP STUDYING if you are going tomorrow. Get a good night's rest, and go to bed early. Trust me, I've been through it. Even going to bed early, I tossed and turned, but it would've been worse had I stayed up. While stopping at 75 seems like a good sign, I stopped at 95 and failed. Pace yourself and don't dwell on a question. If you don't know it after you've read it a couple of times, then you don't know it. Dwelling will only stress you out that much more. Best of Luck!!
  13. I graduated from school on May 3rd. I had two surgeries, and was going to be out on medical leave, so I thought "great, perfect timing to study for nclex". WRONG!! I didn't stop to realize exactly how much the surgeries would take out of me. Even on bedrest doing Kaplan, I obviously didn't do a great job, because on July 1st I failed. I walked out of the testing center not thinking I did bad (I stopped at 95), as all the people in my class stopped at 75 and passed. You could imagine the shock. I cried and cried, but that day, I sent off my re-take, and am now in waiting. I am getting ready to post to Suzanne, and with luck, the benefits will pay off. Things I was told: 1) If you are not 100% mentally AND physically ready, you are setting yourself up to fail. 2) When you pass the re-take, you will appreciate it more (realizing all the hard work you have gone through to get there) 3) Some of the BEST nurses failed the first time. Hope these pearls of wisdom help, and hopefully I will see you on the RN side!
