Distance Ed Science courses

Published

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows of any schools that allow you to take science courses online?

I am asking for a friend of mine who is stationed in Misawa, Japan at an airforce base. He is trying to knock out all his classes to go to Nursing school when he gets back in the US.

Thanks for the help,

Joe

Colorado Community Colleges Online has all the pre reqs and they all are done online without needed to go anywhere for anything.

I took a few classes there to keep involved in school stuff. I have to say though, they were all MUCH harder than classes i took in univ. Alot of self motivation and self directed learning. Noone is telling you to do practice questions and there are no groups to bounce questions off of or people to compare with. It was quite hard.

Good luck! There are alot of schools, but that is one of the few which didnt force you to goto a proctor for exams. Instead they were online timed and very very hard. There was no time to look up answers even though they were all open book. On average there was 90 min for 150-170 questions.

Rio Salado in Tempe ARIZONA has online classes and they have some special program for military people:

good luck!

Is your friend wanting to get his associate's/bachelor's in nursing or master's in nursing anesthesia? Two different things......

If he aiming for a master's in nurse anesthesia, I would hold off taking any science courses until you know what program you are going to attend. It would be sad if the classes you took would not be accepted as transfer credits. That is, unless you are taking refresher courses, then that shouldn't matter. I would definately recommend he look into the schools he's interested in and contact someone at that school to ensure it's a fruitful endeavor. Though, I think any education is beneficial, regardless if it's for earned credit. But it sure would help if it would knock down some required classes. Check out the accredited programs on the http://www.aana.com site and look into the specific programs he has in mind.

Your friend should contact prospective schools and see if they accept distance learning credits beforehand.

I know of at least one nursing school that accepted prereqs from this place:

Thank you for the replies, he is looking at getting his Bachelors degree and then going for CRNA.

I will have him check with the school he is interested in and see if they accept it.

Hey

Just so you know, it seems to accepted more and more. There are a number of CRNA schools which now do the majority of their MSN core classes online. Many of them actually encourage you to take as many core classes online as you can so that your actual CRNA education is your prime focus. Makes alot of sense, really. You could never do the anesthesia stuff online, its a mentored practice. But you could certainly do informatics, ethics and health policy, advanced pharm for APN's etc online if your a self starter and motivator.
