dismissal appeal letter

I am looking for feedback on my appeal letter. Any comments or tips to help me make this more professional/sincere are greatly appreciated.

Dean of Nursing A.W.:

I am writing this appeal to request acceptance to remain in the Nursing Program at XXX Technical College. I understand my academic performance has not been satisfactory by not obtaining the 80% testing average requirement in my Nursing Alterations course. I would like to explain my current life situations that I feel have not allowed me to be successful in completing this course.

I have had a few stressful situations that have weighed heavily on me this past semester which has had an impact on my academics. I am a single mother of a 3 year old boy. Being the primary care giver, I have struggled to find adequate time to study and obtain a sufficient amount of sleep. This has led to me feeling a great deal of anxiety and stress. I am currently taking an anti-anxiety medication.

Another stressor is financial income. I have reduced my hours at my current job to 5 or less per week when I started clinical. Due to a decline in the census, my guaranteed hours have been completely cut. This has caused a great deal of anxiety to me, as I have been struggling financially and have had to ask family and friends for financial assistance.

In order to obtain adequate and uninterrupted time to direct my full and undivided attention to my school work, I have searched for and located a caregiver to assist with caring for my son a few nights during the week as well as on the weekends. This will allow me to study without distractions. I have also acquired another job working 8-16 hours bi-weekly. This will reduce if not eliminate any worry about being able to provide for myself and my son financially.

If I am granted another opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse, I will ensure success in my future courses by utilizing study sessions, meeting with tutors, and communicating with my instructors as well as my advisor. With the time given in class, I will direct my full attention to the material being presented, take detailed notes and use a voice recorder to tape the lectures, allowing me to review the lectures outside of class.

I feel XXX Technical College offers an exceptional learning experience and I wish to continue to be a part of that. I will do anything to my ability to overcome any hurdles in my path to become successful in the nursing program. I have a strong passion for working with people, and am especially passionate about healthcare. I am positive I have the potential to excel in my school work, and become a successful student. It is only with your assistance that I can prove this, to myself as well as my school. I would be honored to be given a chance to prove myself.

Thank you for your time and understanding. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

S.K.
