Discouraged

Published

I was considering going for the RN instead of LPN, but from family and friends they are telling me it's a difficult program, especially chemistry & biology. So just to be on the safe side, I think I'll take their advice and go for the LPN program. Are there any RNs/RNs students that could give me information about the RNs program?? I'm considering Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Mo.

After reading your posts again I think windsurfer was being too harsh. He did that in one of my posts also. Not sure why he feels the need to be so hard all the time. It might discourage excellent nurses from joining the profession. Maybe that is what windsurfer wants I don't know.

Anyway, all I was trying to say is that basically nursing isn't an easy school path and it is an even more difficult career so just make sure you know what you are going into and take steps to try and achieve your goals. I'm personally having difficulties with the course work and might have to change career paths or perhaps I might drop out of college entirely if I don't get into a nursing school after a few application cycles. It really is that competitive. Just make sure you know what you are getting into that's all. Keep in close contact with your schools nursing department and even other nurses in the program. I've gotten much more relevant help from people in the program than people outside of it and that includes school advisers. Your millage may vary. Good luck and keep us updated.

What windsurfer8 said was uncalled for. He's probably unhappy on the inside and wants it to be known.

I might just try the lpn route and bridge over. Thanks for the information & hope you get accepted soon:)

Some schools do not require chemistry as a prerequisite. Windsurfer may have been rude, but what he said speaks true. Nursing is certainly not easy. If you want the responsibility of being a RN, then go for a RN. If you don't, then go for the LPN.

Why are you so willing to take their advice regarding YOUR future? Have they personally taken biology and chemistry or did they just run into somebody who didn't study all that much who told them it was hard? I made A's in both, it's not hard. You just have to do it every day. Don't inhibit your own accomplishments because of the misinformed words of a few people.

For what it's worth, I'm in school with an LPN and she said the challenge exams they have to take for entrance into the bridge program is hell, time consuming, and if she could do it over she's have gone straight for her RN from the start.

Basically study everyday?

What are the prerequisites for LPN? Because even at my community college the LPN program requires chemistry, biology, and anatomy.

I will consider that as well. Thanks

If you don't want prerequisites you could always go the for profit route but you'd still have to take those classes within the program

So why not just go for RN if that's what you really want? Trust me, chemistry is not harder than anatomy

That's why I'm here. To get informed from nursing students. The people I have talked has dropped out or dropped the classes.
