Does anybody have a policy with company guidelines for discharging a patient? We are in our 4th year and have never done his before, but finally have a home where my staff is so threatened to provide care r/t constant threats --that we have no other choice. We have made multiple attempts to resolve the issue, to no avail. I am very familiar with the regulations regarding discharge and revocation, but would appreciate any help or suggestions. I know that the root of this family's anger is that the family is scared to allow their loved one to die, but it is manafested in anger towards my staff that we are unable to continue to tolerate. HELP!!

In a situation like this we first talk with the family about the situation and that if the behavior persists we will have to discharge, then we go in pairs. We get chaplain and social worker involved as well. If it persists, we give the verbal notification and have paper work signed, at least 2 days in advance and go from there with the discharge. We also attempt to help the family find services else where and coordinate all of our care with the new service provider.
