Ok, I am facing a crossroads and would like a little help here. I have recently been offered a Director of Nursing position within the assisted living facility where I currently work as a staff nurse. However, I have also been offered a Nursing Supervisor Position (basically a floor nurse position)within another assisted living facility. Seems like an easy choice right? WRONG.

The D.O.N. position is salary and the Nursing Supervisor position is hourly. When I do the math, the D.O.N. position actually pays LESS than the Nursing Supervisor position yearly......

I have been a nurse for 17 years and I would love to move up into more of an administration position, however I want to be compensated appropriately. (FYI, the company I currently work for is firm on the amount they will pay me -negotiation is not an option....) What would you do and why?

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

As the nursing supervisor, what would your hours be and who has 24/7 staffing responsibility?

As supervisor my hours would be a typical 8 hour shift 7A-330P, I would have no responsibility as far as staffing is concerned.

Honestly, if the annual income is going to be more with the second job, without the responsibility and headache of 24/7 responsibility and staffing, I would go with that one.

I'd go with DON if you have further ambitions. If you don't plan on advancing and would prefer less of a headache and more money, then become a supervisor.
