Direct Commission into Navy Nurse Corps

Specialties Government

Hey guys,

I have just finished submitting my packet for direct commission into the navy nurse corps upon my graduation from nursing school this December 2011. I am just waiting to get my physical and do the 2 nurse interviews before my packet goes to the board in August. With that in mind, I wanted to know if anyone here had any inside information as to the average length of time it takes for them to get back to you? My recruiter was very vague, so I decided to post on here. I also was wondering if anyone knows the actual number of new graduates the navy will take in per fiscal year(especially FY12). Graduation is coming all too soon and I wish I could just set my future in concrete already!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Congrats, so you got your ProRec today?

Specializes in Critical Care.

Yes sure did... Any estimates on how long it will be from now until I leave for ODS

Depends. I put a timeline up regarding my experience. From your Prorec to final select it could be 2 weeks to 1 month. From your finsel to ODS it could be another month or so. You have to understand that it's the holidays and vacations and extended leave happens around this time. Also, the LCDR in charge of new accessions is busy, so even if you have your finsel, he may not get to you til next year.

Best case scenario is you go with us to ODS on February, worst case March or April :]

Congrats on getting in. I'm in the process of applying now. I graduate in May so it looks unlikely that I will be accepted based on these posts about new grads not getting in because of downsizing. However I am trying anyways because it is what I want to do :) good luck and keep us posted!

Hey NavyNurseGrl,

A few quick questions for you. You could already be at ODS and done by now:)

However, how much critical care experience did you have when you applied and how long have you been a nurse? Any other specialties? Did you have your CCRN when you submitted your packet? I thought you said you were working on it. Did you put in your packet that you were studying for it then? Sorry for all the questions. l started this process last year only for my packet to not even make the first board. There were so many things that got left out of my packet and recruiter didn't know credentialing took so long. So, needless to say i didn't get picked up because all the med surg slots were filled. I am now trying to get a position in CCU before this next board in August for 2013. I would only end up with about 4 months experience if i take a position right now in CCU. Then i would really have to work hard to get my ccrn. I have worked in CC but for dialysis treatments and they dont recognize that. So, now I'm having to do this. Any suggestions?? What state were you located in? Do you know how many months or years are they looking at? It seems having the CCRN is the kicker. That's why i was wondering about your Critical care experience and the certification. Thanks so much for all of your help.

Anyone else feel free to chime in on this. I am trying to make decisions. I am not as young as some of you on here so there is a bit of a time crunch for me now that they are downsizing.
