I do a weekend program at the hospital and have been doing a prn thing at a local nursing home that just opened a few months ago.The nursing home offered me a full time position and I was ready to take it because it is closer to home and I would have every other weekend off ,etc.I have been at the hospital for 5 years now.I was told by my manager that I had to bid on a prn position if that is what I want to do ,I can't just go prn.If I were to take a prn position I would keep my seniority. There currently is no prn position for an lpn.The nursing home is really having staffiing issues among other things right now and it is making me very nervous about quitting the hospital all together and losing the senority and the foot in the door if anything happens. They are throwing around the 1:50 ratio for nights (unsafe) but I feel nothing we can do about it right now.Typical administration ,treat these folks like they are your own and we are a patient oriented facility, only to have them turn around and do the things they do and not help. The acting D.ON. and acting admin are nurses and have not helped on the floor with all the staffing issues. We offered to work 12 hour shifts to help and be better for all of us and they said yes only a week later to throw a holy hellun fit and say NO EVERYONE GOES BACK TO 8'S.Staff not happy as usual and lots of empty holes now with no one to fill them .Needless to say here comes the agency staff because the bigwigs as usual are afraid to get their hands dirty.Mind you I flat out told them to their faces during orientation if you can't jump in there and help I have NO respect for you .So you see my dilema,I want to be a part of making this place a nice place to work and for the residents but am scared to death that in a month they will say sorry don't need 2 on nights by state regs so we need to let you go only for me to be out of a job and have to start all over at the hospital or somewhere else at even lower pay than they are offereing.Staff meeting tomorrow by the way.I still have not turned in my notice at the hospital because they can't get it together at the nursing home .Any advice or reassurance would be appreciated.

Personally, I don't think I would take a permanent position somewhere that has terrible staffing and bad management that I have no respect for. Just my opinion though.

I agree with the first comment... 1:50 pt ratio is juz rediculous... liability is juz so crucial.. i respect that you like to make a change there.. but doesnt seem like ur voice is enough... try to communicate wit ur other staff.. but ya i wont even consider a full time position and deal with 50 patients each time. be careful.. ur license is a privilegde...
